The first ever Northern BC Badminton Roadshow, organized by Lisa Davison, covered many cities across Northern BC (Fort St John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Smithers, Terrace, Quesnel & Prince Geroge) between September 23r & October 25th. In Prince George, October 20-23 Anna Rice, Jon Vandervet, Alvin Lau and Christin Tsai not only held camps for athletes (beginners and seasoned players) but also played Exhibition Games the Friday & Saturday night hosted at the Northern Sports Centre. The evening games were entertaining and exciting. On the Friday night, Anna over took Christin in a singles match 25-23 and played a similarly tight game on Saturday winning 24-22. Alvin and Jon took to centre court on Friday and played an excruciating game of singles where Jon came out on top with a 22-20 win. The girls took on the boys each night where they came close to winning but in the end the boys won both matches 21-19 & 21-18. In Mixed Doubles Jon & Anna took on Christin & Alvin Friday night with Jon & Anna coming out with a 23-21 win. On Saturday, the four players decided to switch things up a bit with Jon & Christin rallying against Alvin & Anna with a 22-20 win.
A huge thank you to Anna Rice for the extensive time she spent in Northern BC driving from city to city with the same enthusiasm & energy each time she went on court. Her commitment to the sport of Badminton and eagerness to help us build a bigger base of badminton enthusiasts … well we are forever grateful!
Secondly, thank you to Alvin Lau, Jon Vandervet & Christin Tsai for taking the time out of your busy school, work and training schedules to come to Prince George to not only teach badminton but play some very exciting Exhibition Games. The Roadshow is the first of it’s kind in Northern BC and your professionalism, spirit and passion for the sport showed and will be treasured and remembered for many years!
Looking forward to seeing you all again sometime soon!
